Majella National Park

In the heart of the Central Apennines stands the Majella, a mountain of wild charm and profound sacredness, a historic refuge for hermits and figures like Pope Celestine V. It is a territory of extraordinary beauty, a realm of wolves and bears, characterised by majestic canyons, vast high-altitude plains, and ancient abbeys. With peaks that reach almost 2,800 metres, this unique massif holds a geological history of 100 million years, born from the depths of an ancient tropical sea. A unique park, ready to welcome you with the typical and warm hospitality of Abruzzo.

Cerrano Protected Marine Area

In Abruzzo, renowned as the “Green Region of Europe,” land and sea meet to create unique scenery. Between the municipalities of Silvi and Pineto lies the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area: seven kilometres of coastline under protection, where the marine ecosystem thrives thanks to a network of underwater oases dedicated to safeguarding and studying biodiversity. The undisputed symbol of this stretch of coast is the majestic Torre del Cerrano. Built in 1568 by the Spanish as a defensive stronghold against Saracen pirates, this fortress now stands out among the sandy dunes, fully restored and home to the Marine Biology Centre. A charming place, where the blue of the Adriatic meets the waters of the Cerrano stream, which descends from the hills of Atri, brushing past its famous and striking badlands.

The Ancient Port of Adria

Directly opposite the Tower, hidden beneath the waves of the Adriatic, lies a fascinating archaeological secret. This is the remains of what many scholars believe to be the ancient submerged port of the city of Hadria (modern-day Atri). Myths, historical accounts, and writings from ancient authors, such as the Roman geographer Strabo, tell of a thriving maritime port already active in the 7th century BC and of great importance in Roman times. A veritable treasure hidden beneath the sea, which makes the Protected Marine Area even more magical and enigmatic.

City of Atri

A few minutes from the coast lies Atri, a captivating city of art with ancient origins, its roots delving back to the 7th to 5th centuries BC. An important Roman colony, the city has lived through the centuries, experiencing its peak of splendour under the noble Acquaviva family. Today, strolling through its historic centre means immersing yourself in a fascinating mosaic of stately palaces, museums, and evocative views. The beating heart of the village is Piazza Duomo, dominated by the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (1285). Inside, you will be enchanted by the marvellous fresco cycle by the 15th-century painter Andrea Delitio, while the adjacent museum houses priceless treasures, including exquisite painted maiolica and ancient silver crosses.

City of Pescara

Born in 1927 from the union of two towns nestled on the banks of the river of the same name, Pescara is today the beating heart, commercial and service centre of Abruzzo. This lively city on the Adriatic Sea combines a deeply contemporary soul with ancient roots: already known in Roman times as a trading hub under the name “Ostia Aterni” and in the Middle Ages as “Piscaria”, it boasts Neolithic findings and was the birthplace of the celebrated poet Gabriele D'Annunzio. Today, Pescara welcomes visitors with its wide seafront promenade full of bars, restaurants and a splendid cycle path. Dominating its original skyline are the architectures of the Flaiano Bridge and the evocative Ponte del Mare, inaugurated in 2009 and which immediately became the undisputed symbol of this fascinating coastal destination.
